Black and Gold Society

Terms of Service

The ground rules for using Black & Gold Society, in plain language and with the same legal weight.

Last updated July 16, 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or otherwise using Black & Gold Society (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't create an account.

2. Who this is for

The Service is a private network for UC Santa Cruz Rugby alumni, current players, coaches, and their supporters. Membership isn't automatic — every application is reviewed by an admin, and we can decline or later revoke membership for anyone we reasonably believe doesn't belong here or has violated these terms.

3. Your account

You're responsible for the accuracy of the information on your profile and for keeping your login credentials secure. Specifically:

  • One account per person — no shared logins, no accounts created on someone else's behalf.
  • Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
  • You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.

4. Acceptable use

This is a small, trust-based community. In using it, you agree not to:

  • Harass, impersonate, or misrepresent your identity to another member.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or otherwise export the directory or member data beyond normal browsing.
  • Use the messaging system to spam, solicit unrelated business, or send unwanted marketing.
  • Post content that's unlawful, deceptive, or infringes someone else's rights.
  • Share another member's private information (contact details, résumé, messages) outside the platform without their consent.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post — your profile details, posts, messages, and any résumé you upload. By posting it, you give us the license we need to store it and show it to the other members it's intended for (for example, showing your profile in the directory, or delivering a message to its recipient). We don't use your content for anything beyond operating the Service.

6. Directory, mentorship & opportunities

We help members find and connect with each other — we don't vet the outcome of those connections. Mentors volunteer their own time and expertise; a mentorship match is not a guarantee of a job, an internship, or any particular outcome. Opportunities posted by members are their own listings, not ours — verify details directly with the poster before acting on anything.

7. Moderation & termination

Admins may remove content, suspend, or ban an account that violates these terms, misrepresents its owner, or otherwise harms the community — with or without advance notice, depending on severity. You can stop using the Service at any time; contact an admin if you'd like your account and data removed.

8. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is." We do our best to keep it available and accurate, but we don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Use your own judgment, especially around opportunities, mentorship advice, and anything financial or career-related shared by other members.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Black & Gold Society and the people who run it aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including anything arising from another member's conduct, content, or a connection made through the platform.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. If a change is material, we'll do our best to flag it clearly rather than let it slip in quietly. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, as a reasonable default given the Service's connection to UC Santa Cruz.
